Students at Sandy Creek Elementary School were recognized for their outstanding character in following and exhibiting the seven habits through the Leader in Me. The seven habits include: Be Proactive; Begin with the End in Mind; Put First Things First; Think Win-Win; Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood; Synergize; and Sharpen the Saw.

Two student assemblies were held to present the awards to students in grades K-2; and in grades 3-5. In addition to the 7 habits awards, a special leadership award is presented each quarter to students whose names were nominated and selected by fellow students as representing leadership in and out of the classroom. This quarter, the recipients were introduced by last quarter’s leader recipients who wrote a paragraph describing why they were selected for the award.

Students receiving the Be Proactive award included: Peytonn Wilson, Hailey Bunnell, Cassidy Blodgett, Anna Thomas, Mariah Broadhurst, Catherine Crawford, Autumn Trumble, Joshua Herse, Sam Tessier, Erick Garno, Allison Heft, Harley Petrie, Coltoon Killam, Zander McCarty, Hunter Dingman, Emily Macri, Katerena Bartlett and Hunter Willson.

The second habit, Begin With the End in Mind recipients included: Ian Hanley, River Smith, Dayle Ridgeway, Micah Hawn, Haley Nicole Broadhurst, Emily Mintoyne, Kendall Jones and Brynn Dreibelbis.

Put First Things First, the third habit awards went to: Loki Trumble, Brooke Cacciatori, Noah Yerdon, Russell Thomas, Adam Landphere, Orrin Mautz-Burnett, Jaykob Guile, Danielle Connors, Adelle Harris, Bella Hoffman, Matthew Totten, Brooke Ackerman, Foster Totten, Taylor Thayer, Vienna Allen, Piper Phillips, Arie Licciardello, Kameron Bellinger and Ben Hackett.

Think Win-Win Awards were presented to: Addyson Koester, Abbigail Snyder, Bradley Brown, Logan Bort, Kiara Rosa, Paris Sprague, Caylon Zehr, Jaeden Darling, Abbygail Peter, Morgan Paro, Blake Darling, Marissa Herrmann and Nathaniel Curry.

The fifth habit is Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, and recipients included: Ali Khan, Kerrigan McNelly, Eben Haynes, Hunter Emmons, Sara Leppien, Jasper Wart, Landyn Sedler, Emma Sue Euler, Trapper Burgy, Tyler Trumble and Sophie Harris.

Synergize is the sixth habit and awards were given to: Elijah Sanderlin-White; Ripleigh Losert, Peyton Hicks, Kyle Coe, Logan Lando, Phoenicia Hathway, Shane Wood, Gavin Huggins, David Dillabough, Blake Duffany, Briston Bell and Leia Wall.

The final habit, Sharpen the Saw awards went to: Logan Allen, Brodi Martin, Madison Darling, Luke Ackerman, Jayden Klopotowski and Haidyn Soluri.

In announcing the leadership awards, presenter Maddie Darling called Colton Killam a hard worker who gets his work done on time and is a really good friend. Sophie Harris spoke of Jesiah Curry’s kindness and understanding of others. She also shared that he donated his hair (during a recent St. Baldrick’s event supporting childhood cancer research). Olivia Euler called Seth LaCelle kind, funny and trustworthy as well as inspiring and polite.

The Elementary Schools holds the quarterly awards ceremony to honor the recipients and parents and family are invited to attend when their students are recognized for their outstanding leadership qualities.
